About this route

The year is 1566, and ruthless French pirates have just landed on the coast of Madeira to plunder Funchal! To protect the city's most precious treasure, the Governor hid it in a highly secure fortress before disappearing. He left behind a coded trail of 12 riddles scattered through the city streets. You are a team of modern-day treasure hunters who have discovered the Governor's diary. But beware – the pirates are on your tail! At each of the 12 locations, you must read a piece of local history and observe your surroundings to answer a question. If you answer correctly, you earn one letter of the secret 12-letter password. Guess wrong, and you get nothing. Gather the letters, crack the code, and find the secret exit before the pirates catch you!

This route is approximately 2 km long and will take you around 90 minutes to complete. But remember: This is not a race against the clock! We actively encourage you not to rush. Feel free to take breaks along the way to enjoy a lunch, an ice cream, or a good coffee at one of the city's many cozy cafes. Throughout the game, you must collect letters to find the secret exit. For each correct answer, you receive one letter for the password. Keep an eye on the question counter at the top of the screen (e.g., "1/19") to see how far you have come.
