In the winter of 1978, Stavanger had become the centre of Norway's new oil adventure. The platforms were rising out in the North Sea, and optimism was greater than ever. But far from the public eye, a secret project was set in motion. The project was given the name Platform 7. Officially it was an experimental control station developed to monitor the installations in the North Sea. Only a handful of people knew about the project, and everyone who worked there had to sign strict confidentiality agreements. The goal was to build a system that could analyse enormous amounts of data faster than any human being. Platform 7 was meant to predict failures, warn of accidents and protect the oil installations if a crisis occurred. The project was decades ahead of its time. Then something happened. After only six months the entire programme was shut down. Documents were shredded. Archives were deleted. Reports disappeared. No explanation was ever given. The few who knew about the project later refused to talk about it. The story of Platform 7 was gradually forgotten. Until now. Only a few days ago, technicians picked up a faint radio signal.
